After two years of planning and preparation, improvements to No. 1 and No. 3 were gradually implemented while they operated during the second, third and fourth quarter of 1991. With its upgrade complete, No. 2 Blast Furnace was blown in on December 1, 1991. No. 3 Blast Furnace was blown in on December 7, 1992 after minor repairs and a casthouse upgrade.
