Pre-ozonation was examined in two pilot plant studes for high-rate (9-10 gpm/ft~2) treatment processes with two lopwturbidity water sources in southern California, USA. These studies included evaluations of contact clarifier-high-rate filtration (serial filtration) for the Castaic Lake Water Agency using State Water Project water frm Castaic Lakke and high-rate direct filtration for the Calleguas Municipal Water District using previously treated purchased water that is stored in Ladke Bard. This paper pesents the results of pilot studies performfed on thse two high-rate processes to evaluate how pre-ozonation (O to 4.9 mg/L) impacts turbidity removal (optimum microcoagulation effects), cyst reuction, headloss buildup, and filtuer run length.
