An example is shown from break arcs, the voltage and current of which Holm's simplified arc V-I characteristics cannot explain. Then it is shown that the recently proposed arc V-I characteristics, which includes V-I characteristics of low sustainable arc, is consistent with the example. A new calculation method for break arc duration is introduced based on this new arc V-I characteristics and applied to tungsten contact arc. The arc duration calculated with the arc V-I characteristics including low sustainable arc is closer to the measured arc duration than the arc duration calculated with Holm's simplified arc V-I characteristics is.
