摘要

The effect of the metal cladding thickness on the TE mode optical characteristics of the asymmetric metal-clad four-layer waveguide is analysed by a simplified method, and the formulae of the propagation constant and absorption loss coefficient are derived. The computations for the Air/Metal/GaAs/AlGaAs waveguides show that the results computed from this method are in good agreement with the numerical results of the mode complex transcendental eigenvalue equation except near mode cut-off.
