Biological processes such as the fermentation of carbohydrates from renewable raw materials generate hydrogen. Recently, researchers have turned their attention to the use of algae biomass bearing high concentration of polysaccharides as raw materials for the so-called third-generation biohydrogen production [1,2]. Algae are advantageous in a number of ways. They have the ability to sequester large amounts of CO2 arid to grow at high rates as compared with other types of biomass. They are aquatic organisms and therefore do not compete with food production. In addition, these organisms do not contain lignin, which facilitates their hydrolysis [3].
