The public perception of hydrogen mobility is mainly linked to automobile use. Some car OEMs recently launched their first commercial models, thereby increasing the awareness for the technology. Other application areas for fuel cell technology, such as material handling and public transport, are less well-known to the wider public despite their lower implementation hurdles in an early market stage. Recent research shows the potential of fuel cell (FC) buses: they are crucial for reducing emissions, become increasingly competitive, and offer the same operational flexibility of conventional diesel buses [1].
