Some practical experience on overlay welding of small pipe internals

This report presents two unique "SAW" welding systems which through their dimensional particulars allow weld overlays inside of pipes with diameters as low as 2 in. (50 mm) I.D. and lengths as much as 40 in. (1000 mm) ("MOSQUITO SAW" SYSTEM) or4 in. (100 mm) I.D. with maximum length of 200 in. (5000 mm) ("GIRAFFK SAW" SYSTEM). Along with their very reduced dimensions, the two systems proved to perform a high quality weld deposit with a near zero defect rate in the weld deposit.Due to dimensional and technical particulars of the two systems, the ferrite content of the weld deposit can be controlled through a very special technique.This paper is based on the author's "on the job" research and experience since the year 1982.
