In this paper, drawbacks of the classical seismic design method (based on response spectra) are underlined. An alternative stochastic approach is drawn, based on Vanmarke studies.In this new methodology, soil input motion is described by its P.S.D. (Power Spectral Density). P.S.D. of control parameters are obtained throught transfer functions. Then cumulative probability function of the maximum of the response of controlparameters are obtained. Choice of or acceptable probability of exceedance leads to design values.An industrial example is presented soil motion is described by the Kansi-Tajini model with a duration of 10 seconds. Design values corresponding to different probabilities are given and compared to results of the classical method.
