The purpose of this paper is to present the analysis results for computing displacements and localized stresses in two saddle supported horizontal pressure vessels by a three-dimensional finite element analysis. The pre- and post- processingfor the analysis was achieved by using the Unigraphics system with the McAuto CAD system. Analysis models include realistic vessel beads, saddle supports and actual boundary conditions. The results show that the maximum stress is located atthe born of the saddle and the stresses have a large gradient in the saddle-vessel interface area. Examples of parametric analyses and dimensionless design curves for calculating localized stresses are presented. The results of present paper should prove to be a invaluable aid to be generation of a new design code for horizontal vessels.
