EFFECTS OF PYRETHROIDS ON NERVE MEMBRANE SODIDM CHANNELS

The pyrethroid insectides prolong the sodium current associated with excitation of the nerve membrane and thereby cause a depolarizing effect, which may lead to repetitive nerve activity sometimes accompanied by a depresssion of excitability. We have investigated the interaction between pyrethroids and voltage-dependent sodium channels of various nerve membrane preparations using whole cell voltage clamp and single channel patch clamp techniques.
