First of all, the very powerful MBS (Multibody System) software GMCADS (Generalized Mechanisms Computer Aided Design System) was introduced. In order to meet the requirement of ride vibration analysis, the software GMCADS was expanded for the solution of system transfer function and a post processing program PPRVA (Post Processor of Ride Vibration Analysis) was added for the evaluation of ride comfort. Then the transport system of tractor and trailer combinations was simplified as a eight degree-of-freedom generalized mechanism model with revolute or prismatic joints. For the solution of actual problems, the expanded GMCADS system and the PPRVA program were finally adopted to simulate the ride vibration analysis of the generalized mechanism model of Fiat 80-90 DT tractor and trailer combinations. In the meantime, the ride vibration test of Fiat 80-90 tractor and trailer combinations was carried out. The application of GMCADS and generalized mechanism model for the study of tractor ride vibration problems was proved to be a valuable approach by the comparison between the simulation results and test ones.
