An On-board Modem for coherent processing of QPSK signal is being inplemented with small, light weight and low power consumption. This paper presents a design approach for on-board modems, and its details are as follows: Design trade-off results of on-board modems especially carrier recovery circuits are discussed. The simulated BER performance of various filters are introduced, and the realization method of pulse shaping filters is discussed. Technology of microminiaturization is discussed.
