Three radio pilot tones, available on in-service AR6A single sideband radios, have been used to characterize the dispersive nature of radio fading. The paper presents new results on how three tones can be used to determine delay and amplitude of the second ray in a two-ray fading model. Measurements on two radio hops are presented that give the distribution of second ray delay and amplitude. Also measured were the cumulative statistics of three tone average power and in-band power difference. These quantities ace of great importance to the designer of digital radio systems. Finally, joint fading statistics of two adjacent hops ate presented.
