ISDN-Services-Status and Preview on Service Standardization

This paper describes the actual state of studies related to services offered in an ISDN. Based on a review on the key elements of the service concept as recommended by CCITT in its I-series recommendation (I.210, I.211, I.212) details of the studies on Bearer services, Teleservices and SupplementaryServices will be given. To allow worldwide communication, standardization of services is not dispensable; only with a complete service concept, the investment needed for the deployment of ISDN will pay off. Therefore, in all its work on ISDN, CCITT has given high priority to uniform definition of services and to the specification of services to be offered internationally.
