The basic functions of a PCM channel unit in SCPC/Single Channel Per Carrier/systems are the following:- A/D and D/A conversion of speech signals- send and receive synchronisation - phase ambiguity resolution at the receiver - speech detection.Wired logic, bit-slice and MOS microprocessor versions were analysed in comparison for finding the most suitable solution.Various programming languages and several MOS processors were used in simulation of critical tasks.AMOS multiprocessor architecture was chosen to meet the INTELSAT/INTERSPUTNIK specifications.The multiprocessor architecture consisting of four microprocessors is described, results measured on production prototypes are presented.
