In the context of wideband local distribution network a number of problems arise, related both to the technical and the economical aspects. In the paper, starting from a videomatic scenario characterized by the distribution of the video signals to the private customer (PAY-TV service), economic consideration are developed in order to allow not only a forecast of investment cost for the optical system but also to derive methodological tools. These tools are considered a necessary ground for technical choices both for network structure and subsystems and components. Articularly, cost evolutions are reported as a function of time for the main constituants of the optical system in the local distribution network; further a procedure is discussed for the evaluation of demand growth, allowing the identification of investment cost and revenues.
