THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LOW TIN COATING MASS TINPLATE: LTS

B.H.P. has developed a low tin coated steel (LTS) with a nominal tin-coating mass of VI g/m2. The product provides commercially acceptable solderability, external corrosion and lacquerability, and shelf-life tests with beer, carbonated soft drinks and a number of food products have been most encouraging. LTS has the potential of providing a significantly cheaper can-making material at a time when escalating costs are a major concern.
