CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHTLY TIN- COATED STEEL SHEET

The lightly tin-coated steel sheet (LTS) has an extremely thin duplex coating on a steel substrate, the inner layer on the steel base consisting mainly of uniform and dense tin and/or iron-tin alloy, and the upper layer consisting mainly of uniform hydrated chromium oxide. LTS can be easily produced using the modified tinning electrolyte.In this paper, the characteristics of LTS are discussed as compared with those of TFS and ordinary tinplate. As can stock, LTS has the good properties of both TFS and tinplate, when used after lacquering. Corrosion resistance after forming of LTS is better than that of TFS. LTS has an excellent lacquering performance, better than tinplate. LTS shows a good weldability, superior to TFS.It is expected that LTS may be used as can stock for various packs.
