In the sixties, growth rates for tinplate consumption were between +4 and +8% per annum for all regions except North America, where the rate was around +2% per annum.In the seventies, these rates were maintained or increased in Eastern Europe and the developing regions (where growth was very rapid towards the end of the seventies), while consumption declined in the U.S.A. (-2(1/2)% per annum) and growth rates fell to between +1/2 and +2% in other developed regions.World-wide, growth rates for tinplate consumption were +4% per annum in the sixties and +1% per annum in the seventies. The medium term forecast (3-5 years) is +1 to +3% per annum. Prospects for tin used to make tinplate (around 40% of total tin consumption) are for stability or marginal growth in the medium term.
