The No. 2 Tandem Cold Mill of Fukuyama Nippon Kokan's Works commenced operation in June, 1971 as the world-first fully-continuous -old rolling mill. In fact, it has established a company monthly production record of 116,000 metric tons including approx. 30,000 tons of tin black plate in January 1977. As to this fully-continuous cold rolling mill, a series of reports have been made clarifying its construction, design specifications operating advantages and product quality. Considering the situation of the steel industry in recent years, however, higher technology has been increasingly demanded to meet higher product quality requirements and also to satisfy the energy and resource saving programs. These demands apply to this fully-continuous cold rolling mill, as well. In fact, the people concerned who had highly evaluated the advantages of this mill in the past, have become not only dissatisfied with them but have also started thinking about is inherent problems very seriously. Fukuyama Works has carried out a series of improvement programs to modernize our fully-continuous cold rolling mill, enabling it to cope with new requirement.
