Three configurations of substrate integrated printed log-periodic dipole array (PLPDA) antenna are presented. The antenna is designed at the ka-band for 5G applications. The antennas provide a peak gain of 12-14.5dBi with a bandwidth of about 59% (21-37GHz). First configuration, LPDA antenna backed by a flat ground, is proposed to reduce the back radiation and to improve the gain. Second configuration, directors are added to improve the gain (about 2.5 dBi) and reduce the back lobe further, but the return loss is increased. In the third configuration, the substrate is perforated to decrease the return loss. All of these proposed configurations of the substrate integrated printed LPDA antenna maintain fantastic front to back lobe ratio with low cross-polarization for the entire frequency 5G band.
