An edge-based finite-element method has been developed for the application of three-dimensional unsteady incompressible flow in a complete turbomachine. This paper deals with the numerical modeling and simulation of a complete hydraulic mixed-flow pump that is composed of a centrifugal impeller and a vaned diffuser. It is modeled directly from CAD geometry data using an automatic tetrahedral mesher. The unsteady and incompressible Navier-Stokes flow solution is obtained by the projection method using a k-E turbulence model. An ALE remeshing technique is used for the real time simulation of the strong rotor/stator interaction without any numerical approximation or interpolation. A series of sensitivity study against the experiment is carried out with rotating impeller at 800 RPM for three different cases of flowrate. The simulation results demonstrate the capability of this method for fast numerical modeling and solution for practical turbomachines with realistic configuration.
