This paper is the third in a series describing a detailed set of single-point velocity statistics obtained in a backwards-facing step flow of expansion ratio, ER = 1.25 and Reynolds number based on step height and upstream velocity of 26,300. The inlet velocity profile was nearly uniform, with low freestream turbulence in the central core region and had fully-turbulent boundary layers. Velocities were measured using laser Doppler velocimetry. The goal was to establish an unbiased (i.e. no velocity bias) set of velocity statistics which could be used for validation of turbulence models. Here, special attention is given to a set of single-component velocity statistics which describe the axial velocity distributions very near the wall, in the recirculation zone, the reattachment zone and the redeveloping boundary layer of a backwards-facing step flow.
