In this study, the effects of surface films on Internal Wave (IW) signatures in SAR imagery are analyzed by means of co-polarized phase difference (CPD) information. Two ALOS PALSAR images collected over the Andaman sea are exploited. Experimental results show that: i) the standard deviation of the CPD IW contrasts are reduced and do not show clear correlation with the HH intensity contrasts for an image acquired under lower chlorophyll-a concentration; ii) the standard deviation of the CPD IW contrasts are essentially in anti-phase with the HH intensity contrasts for an image collected under higher chlorophyll-a concentration.
