In this paper, a band-ratio model is developed and validated using data collected in the coastal waters of Singapore to obtain the absorption coefficient (at 440nm) of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) from Sentinel-2 images. Sentinel-2 is a suitable sensor for the monitoring of Singapore's coastal waters given the high temporal and spatial resolution which minimizes land and cloud contamination. A simple band-ratio model is used such that the model could be easily operationalized and allow for the useful monitoring of CDOM in this region. The leave-one-out-cross-validation scheme was used to validate the model due to the small number of data points. This model is further tested with coincident Sentinel-2 images within ± 24 hours from the in-situ measurements.
