As one of the most recent 3D or multidimensional models, the BIM system is employed to simulate the design, construction, operation process, and planning of construction projects. The main objective of this project is to investigate the energy performance of residential buildings in major cities of Australia with particular attention placed on the climate of each city to prove that energy consumption in terms of heating and cooling loads. The RTS method has been used to perform design load calculations. A three-story residential building in cubic shape with an area of 292 square meters is designed. Model divided into various energy spaces and zones and the energy model designed in Autodesk Revit 2020 and the analytical energy model depicted according to thermal properties of building elements. This project proves that, the energy consumption of a building and its internal conditions are intimately related to its shape. According to results, the cubic shape is more appropriate for the climate of Melbourne and Brisbane.
