It's All About the Digital Baby Detroit's Paperless GIS Centric Work Order Management System

Digital transformation can provide significant benefit to local government departments as they aim to meet the expectations of a connected constituent by offering 24/7 access to online interactions and information. The City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) has determined that to manage its assets effectively and provide metrics for its' internal and external customers, a replacement to of the current computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) was needed. Within DWSD, the digitalization is helping engineers, operators, maintenance and other functional departments optimize their processes, better utilize capacity and resources and meet increasingly rigorous regulatory requirements. A CMMS solution was required that would streamline and integrate all Operations and Maintenance (O&M), capital program assessment and geospatial activities. End user involvement from inception through business process redesign, including leading configuration workshops and defining the criteria for user acceptance testing, was crucial in the adoption and successful implementation of the system.
