In the textile industry, efficient color control and communication within the supply chain are critical to obtaining high quality and cost efficient products. Digital color communication is an emerging technological path that could potentially provide process optimization, especially in reducing time and costs. However, this approach requires optimization of numerical models and a clear understanding of the extent and limitations of the instrumental measurements as well as the visual assessment methodologies. While color difference models based on average visual response of color normal observers can be useful, color appearance models maybe more pertinent for complex multicolor patterns. The main objective of this work is to review some of the most important parameters that influence the accuracy of color assessments of complex multicolored patterns.
