This research compared the consumer preferences of jacquard woven fabrics that achieved coloration through use of dyed yarns versus jacquard fabrics that achieved coloration by digitally printing the woven substrate. Twelve samples were prepared for comparison using the same scale, pattern and motif. A visual assessment by 68 observers was used to determine which design application was perceived as the most aesthetically pleasing and of the highest quality. Results from this study assisted with understanding the perception of design attributes and the ability of a digital printer to imitate complex yarn dyed jacquard patterning in a woven fabric.
