The SKYACTIV-X is a gasoline engine developed in the second step of Mazda's questfor the ideal internal combustion engine. Of seven control factors of an internalcombustion engine, a compression ratio and a specific heat ratio determine the thermalefficiency of an Otto cycle, and these factors have been increased to the effectivelevels, aiming for controllable compression ignition combustion. Thanks to Mazda'sproprietary Spark Controlled Compression Ignition, which enables stable control ofcombustion timing by combining the mixture formation through split injections at highflow fields and spark ignition, combined with an air-supply system, the SKYACTIV-Xhas achieved an excellent balance of the superior environmental performance, poweroutput and dynamic performance.
