Building Categories in Higher Education Pedagogy: from the Generation to the Socialization of Knowledge

This paper discuss the building of categories in an Encyclopedia of Higher Education Pedagogy as a process of generation and validation of knowledge, supported in Peer Review directed at technical and scientific communication. The process considers production of knowledge as an objective, but ceaseless production which brings theoretical and social conditions. Initially information is presented about the context in which the Encyclopedia was constructed, the process of meta-analysis anchored in national and international studies and in building the networks of research and Peer Review, at the national and international level. Next the generation of knowledge and its validation are shown in the process of building the encyclopedia. The Peer Review process is explicitly shown. The conclusions were that the building of categories and the entries it covers reflects several fields of disciplines, the Peer Review is at the heart of the process due to the critical interlocution, and that the definitions of categories must be referenced to meta-studies aimed at academic and practical productions with a national/international scope.
