Now a days, LEDs are widely used in lighting application. This requires efficient driver circuit for providing energy to the LED. This paper presents low cost implementation of a predictive control algorithm for high power factor high efficiency AC-DC LED driver using 8-bit mid-level fixed point processor. This circuit consists of full-bridge rectifier for AC to DC power conversion and a buck-boost converter in synchronous rectifier mode for output voltage regulation. The predictive control algorithm has been used to achieve the high input power factor as well as to ensure ZVS operation of main switch and auxiliary switch of the buck-boost converter. The proposed algorithm has been verified in MATLAB-Simulink and PSPICE digital simulation platform. Experimental validation of the proposed algorithm has been carried out successfully in laboratory using 8-bit digital controller PIC18F4431.
