Wireless cameras enable cable-free dynamic shooting and have become indispensable intelevision program production for sporting events and music concerts. NHK has researched anddeveloped an 8K ultra-high definition television (UHDTV) wireless camera using millimeter waves thatcan transmit an 8K signal with low latency and high quality. We have prototyped a compact transmitterusing the 42-GHz band and developed an 8K UHDTV wireless camera by combining this transmitterwith a portable 8K UHDTV video encoder. In this paper, we introduce a prototype 8K UHDTV wirelesscamera system using millimeter waves and report the results of laboratory and field wirelesstransmission experiments.
