A new In-Flight testing method for certifying Engine Fire Extinguishing Agent Concentration was used on a commercial airplane to meet the Federal Aviation Regulations. Results of the test indicate that significant savings can be realized in cost and schedule as well as in the quantity of engine fire extinguishing agent required. Industry with support of Regulatory Agencies will be able to apply this new technique to accomplish future certification tests. This technology will help reduce airplane weight and also be beneficial in the evaluation of an alternative fire extinguishing agent to replace Halon 1301, since the production of Halon has been terminated.
