Performance evaluation of SmarTspelLR: a continuouslyspelled name recognizer over the telephone

We report on the evaluation of two applications using spelled namerecognition. We report on the evaluation of the whole system during afour month field evaluation on two different tasks: a call routingdevice and an e-mail reader system. The field evaluation showed thatnearly 90% of the calls were completed successfully. After describingthe technology and the evaluation procedure, the results are presentedand the type of errors discussed
