This paper presents the synthesis technique available in S3E2S, a CAD environment to specify, simulate, andsynthesize electronic systems that can be modeled as a combination ofanalog parts, digital hardware, and software.S3E2S is based on a distributed, object-orientedsystem model, where abstract objects are initially used to expresscomplex behavior and may be later refined into digital or analoghardware and software. Finally, system synthesis is targeted to a set ofcomplex processors, which can be either custom designed or off-the-shelfcomponents. The environment selects processors that best match thedesired application by analyzing processor and applicationcharacteristics. The paper explains the architecture selection processwith some examples
