Practical shielding design requires one to optimize theelectromagnetic field attenuation taking into account multipleconstraints such as weight, costs and dimensions. This paper proposes aformulation of this procedure in form of an unconstrained optimizationproblem, its numerical solution by means of the modified Price'salgorithm and the validation of the results by comparison with knownones. Various shielding configurations are analyzed and from theoptimization results, some design rules are drawn
