The cooling effect and thermal comfort resulting from a fen with a fine water mist spray was compared to that of a fan alone in a shaded outdoor area on hot summer days with temperatures exceeding 35°C. The mist and fan is much better than a fan alone, as shown both by much better votes on a 9-level comfort scale by 161 test subjects. The before exposure average vote was +2.98. Exposure to the fan only reduced this to +0.05. The mist and fan combination yielded a -1.65. Skin temperature dropped by less than 0.1K due to the fan alone, but by over 0.9K with the misting fan.
