Mission critical operations have a very high level of importancein that their interruption may cause social unrest or severe problems incorporate management operations. From this point of view, it is commonto construct them by using mainframes with high reliability, highprocessing capacity and excellent continuity. We have met this need bydeveloping an ultra-large-scale cooperative distributed system thatrealizes a mission criticality level equivalent to conventional systems,while at the same time achieving greatly reduced cost and meeting thedevelopment time frame of 2 years. We describe here a developmentexample of creating an ultra-large-scale cooperative distributed systemand the concepts and technologies related to the development process
