The authors describe two design procedures in which the FEM hasbeen integrated but for which problems have arisen due to the definitionof the reactance components. The design procedures described are firstlyfor the calculation of the rotor bar impedance of squirrel cageinduction motors and secondly the calculation of end winding reactancein synchronous and induction machines
