We propose a channel allocation scheme called unified channelallocation (UCA) appropriate for both uniform and non-uniform trafficenvironment. The currently available channel allocation schemes such asfixed, dynamic and hybrid schemes are not suitable for all trafficconditions. The fixed channel allocation scheme does not perform well innon-uniform traffic environment and the dynamic scheme does not do wellin uniform heavy traffic conditions. In real situations, however, theuser traffic pattern changes with time and space. The UCA schemeadaptively changes its channel recommendation pattern for each cell tosatisfy the current demand under all traffic conditions. We demonstratethrough simulation that the proposed scheme, using the virtual channelset (VCS), performs better than the other schemes in all trafficconditions. Furthermore, the UCA scheme is a practical scheme, becauseit can be implemented without knowledge of the traffic fluctuations withtime and space, since the underlying VCSs will adapt to trafficfluctuations
