Application of a continuous pseudo-colour spectrum is an imageenhancement process carried out on a monochrome image representing thespatial variation of some physical quantity, whereby each possiblegreyscale value of a given pixel is transformed into a unique triad ofred (R), green (G) and blue (B) display values to facilitate visualinterpretation. The use of the word `spectrum' doses not imply any closeconnection with a dispersed spectral distributed of light, other thanthe exploitation of a familiar and logical sequence of hues in acontinuously progressive sequence. This enhancement process isindependent of any contrast enhancement for `windowing' process whichmight also be invoked to alter the greyscale values to be worked on bythe pseudo-colour display process
