The London Electricity Board operates a large distribution systemcharacterised by a very dense city centre system with a high demandgrowth. The authors describe the extension of an interactive graphicsbased network analysis system into this environment and describe thespecial facilities found necessary to achieve the considerable potentialbenefits. They outline the background to the Board's needs, and give areview of the critical network data management facilities required, emphasising the close ties to interactive graphic display facilities.Various special application package requirements are also described aspart of an extended integrated system. The conclusions are that the newgeneration of distributed graphics based network information systemshave considerable potential. It can be foreseen that district engineerswill carry out their own local data capture, updating and analysiswithout specialist training and yet achieve full corporate dataintegration and network performance in conformance with centralstandards
