Water Quality Assessment on West Tarum Canal for Raw Water Supply in Karawang, Bekasi, and Jakarta Region

West Tarum Canal (WTC) is is waterway diversion from Citarum river ranging Curug Weir until Ciliwung River as long as 54.4 km. The WTC supplies raw water for more than 2.5 million people in Karawang, Bekasi, and Jakarta Region. So that the water quality in the WTC is very important. Water quality monitoring was conducted at the WTC at 17 sampling points between Curug Weir in Karawang Regency and Bekasi Weir in Bekasi City. There were 19 parameters of physical and chemical properties evaluated. They were pH, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd. Cu, Pb, Ni, Total Cr, PO_4~(3-), NH_3-H, NO_2~-, NO_3~-, oil and grease. Identification of potential point sources pollutant were also conducted. The results revealed that 175 of wastewater point sources and 82 municipal solidwaste point sources were identified. Although the results demonstrated that 15 parameters were complied with the standard. However, the BOD concentrations were not complying the standard on all sampling points. The BOD concentrations were 3.78-11.5 mg/L. While the DO, TSS, and Cu concentrations were not complied with the standard at several location. The concentrations of DO, TSS, Cu were 1.26-5.12 mg/L, 1-144 mg/L, 0.001-0.0047 mg/L respectively.
