The ultimate purpose of this study is to understand traditional passive cooling techniques employed in and around vernacular architecture in Malaysia and eventually apply them to modern urban houses. The present authors carried out a field measurement in two adjacent Chinese shophouses (CSHs) with courtyards located in the Malaccan heritage site from 12~(th) to 17~(th) October 2011 (Kubota and Toe, 2012). This paper further analyzes the effects of courtyards on their indoor thermal environments based on the results of the above measurement.
