Progress towards a Pan-European WDM network: 3600 km, 25 Gbit/s cascade of all optical 2R regenerator/wavelength converters and 400 km uncompensated standard fibre sections

An all-optical 2R regenerator inserted in a 400 km long recirculation loop with 100 km spaced fibre amplifiers allows transmission at 2.5 Gbit/s over more than 3600 km of standard fibre without any dispersion management scheme.
