Polarisation compensation device for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in optical fibre transmission lines uses polarising control modules connected in cascade with each generating differential compensating delay signals
The device uses a series of insertion-extraction multiplexing modules (OADM) each with a first input (E1) to receive the multiplexed signal (in cascade from the upstream module), a first output (S1) to provide the associated channel output signal, a second input (E2) to receive a modified signal and a second output (S2) to cascade the multiplexed input signal (Mux). Signals from the second output (S2) are supplied to the polarising controller modules (PC) to generate delays to compensate for polarisation dispersion distortions to the signals in the transmission line. Compensating loop modules (ODM) and control modules (CT) respond to the optical properties of each signal channel to provide polarising compensation signals (P). The differential delay generator (DDG) provides input signals, in cascade, to the ODM modules.
