This paper presents the topology of a three-phase AC/AC converter without DC energy storage for the control of power flow and compensation of deep voltage sags and swells. The proposed solution is intended to protect sensitive loads against voltage fluctuation and problems with power flow control in an AC power system. The topology of the proposed solution is based on two bipolar direct AC/AC converters, without DC energy storage operating in any of the phases. The paper presents an operational description, simulation and the experimental test results from a 1 kVA laboratory model operating under active load. The main advantage of the proposed solution is the combination of the properties of a series AC voltage compensator and phase shifters without DC energy storage. The analyzed converter is able to compensate deep voltage sags and swells (up to 50% in the case of three phase symmetrical voltage perturbation) and single phase voltage interrupts. However, its main task is control power flow in a three-phase power system.
