E-book in Indonesia: Reason to use and usability evaluation

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usability of electronic books (e-books) in Indonesia. Thirty-two college students, who were eighteen to twenty-one years old, participated in the study. Usability evaluation is done by measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction through experiments. Participants were asked to read novels in the form of e-books and conventional books. Response measures included reading performance and Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT). 135 students also filled the Questionnaire for User Interaction Satisfaction (QUIS) to measure their user satisfaction of e-books. The results indicate that reading a conventional book have a higher level of effectiveness and efficiency. Reading an e-book causes higher eye fatigue than reading a conventional book. But, participants have already felt satisfied with e-books.
