A novel reflector-backed wideband antenna with a folded substrate is proposed for ultra-wideband (UWB) microwave imaging applications. The designed antenna has the size of 60 mm × 38 mm with an optimal reflector with 40 mm distance. Simulated results show that the assembled antenna provides wideband frequency ranging from 3.45 to 11 GHz and a broadside gain between 4.5 to 9.7 dB in free space. The prototype is fabricated by using 3-D printing with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and then metallised by using copper tape. The measured reflection coefficient of the assembled antenna has a good agreement with the simulation. Moreover, the measured results show the prototype can achieve larger bandwidth as its cut-off frequency shifts to 3.25 GHz.
